3 Things You Need to Do Right After an Auto Collision

There are auto collision repair shops in Sussex such as Merton Auto Body that can help transform your car after an auto accident. But before you can get there, what you do right after an automobile accident can dictate the fate of your car, even your life. Here are some of the things that you need to do following an auto collision.

1. First of all, don’t panic.

This is rule number one and it’s the most important thing you can do, despite being the most difficult. When you get into a car accident, panic immediately sets in. But remember, panic can make things worse. First, you need to calm yourself and then check for injuries. If you’re riding with someone, especially small children, make sure you check that everyone’s okay before calling for an ambulance or the police.

2. Call for help immediately before checking your vehicle.

Even if it’s a minor accident, it’s important to call 911 for help immediately, especially if you’re in doubt that no one’s hurt. After calling for help, it’s time to check your vehicle. But first, turn on the hazard lights and use traffic cones if you’re carrying some. Make sure that you take notes—jot down the names of the persons involved, the cars’ license plates, and more. If you’re talking to the other person involved in the collision, make sure you get their insurance policy information. Take photos is a must, especially if you don’t have pen and paper with you.

3. Move cars out of traffic.

This is only applicable if the accident and damage are minor. This way, you don’t add to the traffic on the highway. But if the crash is major and there are more than two cars involved, it’s best to stay where you are and use cones and other warning signs to secure the area before the police arrive.
